According to the archaeological remains, life on the island dates back to prehistoric times. The Romans called it the BOA.

Intensive colonization began in the 15th century when the inhabitants of the land found the salvation from the Turks on the island. In that time the church of Our Lady of Prizdinice was built on the vertical and inaccessible cliffs in 1546th. On the island there are still monasteries St. Cross from the 15th century and St. Anthony from 17th century.

The island is known for its pleasant Mediterranean climate with mild winter and warm summer. The average annual temperature is 17 ° C degrees. A year has 2700 hours of sunshine and the summer temperature is between 23 ° and 27 ° C.

The island has beautiful beaches, straits, uninhabited islands, bays and places with many domestic and foreign tourists.
